Money Matters
The fees for the outbound exchange program are on a 3-tier basis. All tiers
include the following;
- Return economy flight from your state capital to Tokyo
- Travel and medical insurance
- Four-week intensive Japanese language course
- Return domestic air/train travel from Tokyo (if required)
- High School enrolment
- Daily commutation from host home to high school
- High School Uniform (except items that cannot be recycled including but
not limited to shoes, sports shoes, items embroidered with the students'
name)
- High School books
- Orientations
- Home stay placement
- YESI/FACE administration costs & GST
TIER 3 (full price) - $8100
Outbound students whose Australian high school does not accept an inbound
student are required to pay $8100.
TIER 2 (partial scholarship value $4200)
Outbound students who are not awarded a tier 1 scholarship, may be offered
a partial scholarship. Students who are awarded a partial scholarship are
required to pay a total of $3900.
TIER 1- ( scholarship value $6500)
Outbound students whose Australian high school is willing to accept an inbound
student in 2010 may apply for a scholarship. Students who are awarded a scholarship
are required to pay a total of $1600.
ADDITIONAL EXPENSES
Additional expenses include but are not limited to;
- Incidentals – International telephone calls, snacks, outings with
friends, clothing, excursions etc. must be paid for by the student. Incidentals
are estimated to cost between $75 and $120 per week at current exchange
rates.
- Transfers – Students are responsible for the cost of transfers
from their home town to their state capital.
- One text book used at the Japanese language school.
- School excursions and extra-curricular activities. Please note that some
school excursions may be compulsory.
- School uniform items that are not recyclable including but not limited
to shoes, sports shoes, and items embroidered with the students' name.
- School stationery.
- Excess on insurance claims (if applicable), and treatment not covered
by the insurance policy, eg treatment for injuries incurred before the start
of the policy.
- Musical instruments/laptop computers/other expensive items – these
are not covered by insurance, but additional insurance can be purchased
through FACE.
- Passport application fee payable to Australia Post on application.
- Visa – visas are free of charge to Australian passport holders.
For other passports, a fee may be charged depending on the passport held.
NB: No guarantees can be given with regard to estimated costs for additional
expenses. Such costs will vary from student to student and according to the
exchange rate.
