FACE makes preparations for visas, insurance and flights. FACE will send all the required documentation to successful applicants to be completed and returned to FACE for processing of visas, insurance and flights. All successful applicants must hold an Australian passport valid for the entire length of their stay.
YESI makes preparations for host schools and host families. This is a lengthy and time-consuming process. Details of host schools and the first host family for each student are distributed in February.
Students are encouraged to read as widely as possible on Japan. The better prepared a student is, the easier the transition will be, resulting in a more successful exchange. FACE provides a student handbook detailing the roles of the organizations involved, what to consider before departure, cultural differences at home and school, rules and disciplinary issues, dealing with culture shock and homesickness, and advice from past students. FACE also provides a Japan handbook designed to give a broad overview of Japanese culture, practical information about Japan, and the Japanese education system.
